LIVING THE ACTIVE LIFE
Tip of the Day for May (31): Urban Biking
We just got back and settled back in from a fun-filled little weekend away to San Francisco.  We trekked all around the city and were able to sneak in an afternoon bike ride one of the days.  It was by far the slowed 10 mile meandering ride I’ve taken for a long time.  But, we soaked in all the scenery and the simple pleasure of cruising around town.
We didn’t manage to take a ‘tour’ with SoSF and probably should have since the bikes would have been better!  I used to lead trips with Tim and David and they are legit.  They love San Francisco and know it like the back of their hands, plus they know how to lead a quality trip better than the rest.  So, I’ve been stoked to see so much buzz about them on the interwebs.  And, once I got home, I started reading an article about ‘urban biking’ only to discover that it was written by none other than Tim himself!
So, the next time you’re headed into the city, don’t think you have to leave your bike at home.  Staying active isn’t relegated to the mountains only.  There are some pretty mean hills in SF and some views that wow.

Tip of the Day for May (30): Bicycle Friendly Campuses

Tip of the Day for May (29): Outdoor Fitness
So, I realize on first glance that this doesn’t seem to be cycling related.  But, what you can’t see is our bikes.  While we took a quick trip to San Francisco, we rented some serious tourist bikes.  Ugh, they were heavy.  And my dang seat kept sliding down, especially on uphills.  But, the views made it worth it.  And, while we made our way around the tip of the peninsula toward the Marina, Presidio and Golden Gate Park, we stumbled upon this outdoor fitness station, just adjacent to the bike path.  I’ve been singing the praises of Outdoor Fitness for some time now.  But, with efforts like this National Fitness Campaign, I see no reason to go inside to the gym.  Pair a bike ride in the headlands with some metabolic training exercises outside and you’re on your way to being your fittest (and happiest self.)

Tip of the Day for May (27): When a Dog Attacks

Fellow SmartWool Athlete Ambassador Eric Nguyen, I was reminded of this very important tip: If a dog is chasing you while you’re on your bike, give it a little squirt from your water bottle!

While it’s been awhile (thankfully!) since I’ve had to avoid angry dogs, Eric apparently had success using this method last week.
